Sniper’s backpack, battle uniforms, and mine detectors: Tactical stars of SHOT Show

                                                                                                                                                                            Over the course of four days last week, more than 65,000 industry professionals from all 50 states and more than 100 countries convened in Las Vegas for the 37th annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show.
Always on a giant scale, this year more than 1,600 exhibitors showcased the latest and greatest in firearms, ammunition, hunting, shooting accessories and more.
A fixture in the hunting and shooting world, the show is increasingly a platform for innovation in the tactical space. Just 12 years ago, companies focused on the law enforcement and tactical consumer accounted for a mere 7,000 feet of the behemoth show.
But this year law enforcement and tactical consumers took up more than 170,000 square feet at the show.
Amid the smorgasbord of guns and gear for law enforcement and the military, here are three of the top picks making their debut at SHOT:
The Sniper’s Backpack
Looks like a backpack, works as a sniper platform.
The pack is an all in one solution – it carries your rifle, but also acts a shooting platform.
Tenzing Tactical Shooter’s Pack rapidly converts from a scoped rifle pack to a self-contained shooting rifle pack to a self-contained shooting rest.
One of the company’s slogans is “Hunt fast. Hunt light.” And that certainly applies to this creative piece of kit.
In fact, a sniper can even take aim and fire without removing the gun from the pack.
By keeping snipers fully equipped and mobile, this smart pack could help increase response time.
The Tactical Shooter’s Pack is designed to securely strap the rifle to the pack and to create a steady shooting platform.
There are two fold out pockets for additional ammunition and two specialized see-through pockets for ballistic cards.
The pack weighs four pounds and six ounces and has a padded removable waist belt that fits waists between 32 to 48 inches.
It’s got 16 compartments and pockets to stash gear and there’s an internal fluted aluminum frame.
Rain? No problem. The pack includes a fold out rain cover. It also has a foldout, adjustable rifle-securing boot.
Enhanced Battle Uniforms
Arc’teryx LEAF, the innovative defense focused wing of the popular outdoor company Arc’teryx, revealed its Enhanced Battle Uniforms at SHOT.
And the EBU acted as a lightning rod, drawing in masses of military and law enforcement during the show. The booth was heaving with operators keen to have a look at the new Recce Shirt and Assault Shirt and Pant.
One of the company’s slogans is “Focus on the task at hand and not on the equipment” and the uber-smart design on these three items reflects just that.
The Recce Shirt is a patrol shirt built to carry mission essentials comfortably over long distances and challenging terrain. The very smart pocket design and positioning on both the shirts and pants also provide maximum load-out. There are two internal stash pockets and two external chest Velcro pockets and two external chest drop-in pockets that fit smartphones as well as two secure upper arm pockets.
And with its spacious fit for layering underneath, Recce Shirt allows flexibility for a range of temperatures.
The Assault Shirt and Pant are highly technical - created for a range of combat applications.
The Assault Shirt has integrated pockets that fit removable articulated soft elbow pads as well as two secure upper arm pockets that smartphones can fit into.  Its low-profile hybrid collar can be worn open or closed to shield the neck.
The Assault Pant is reinforced in high stress areas and there are two hand pockets with an internal knife pocket as well as two seat and thigh cargo pockets.
The design on all three pieces has focused on the wearer’s safety. For example, Arc’teryx LEAF uses premium Cordura textiles that don’t melt and drip. And they’re compatible with body armor.
They’re all designed for maximum mobility.  The pant, for example, has articulated knees giving complete range of motion unrestricted by any bulk. There are also removable soft kneepads and LEAF kneecaps as options.
They’re available in MultiCam, Ranger Green, Crocodile and Wolf.
MineShark

It is based on NIITEK’s combat-proven ground penetrating radar tech and Minelabs’ advanced metal detector tech.
It is so good that it can identify single strand wires and carbon rods in challenging soil circumstances.
How does it work? The MineShark automatically detects the threats with two sensors working independently. It leverages two channel ground-penetrating radar and a single frequency continuous wave metal detector.
The MineShark’s recognition software interprets what it “sees” and helps the operator work out the nature of the buried threat.

  The initiative got 60 percent of the vote, in an off year when right-wing trolls put a poison pill measure on the ballot to fool people into voting against it—and failed.

In Oregon, the government did its job of protecting citizens over the infinitely expanding greed of Wayne LaPierre and his little band of merry, executive-suite misanthropes who run the NRA.

 In the one state where they succeeded (although with a watered-down version of their bill), Texas, there have been protests and a number of professors have quit. Also, ironically, they’ve managed to create a whole new grassroots, gun-safety force among students who plan to carry colorful dildos around campus in protest. You see, carrying dildos out in public is illegal in Texas, concealed weapons that can kill now is not. Tells you all you need to know about the gerontocratic, melanin-challenged, right-wing men who are the base of support for both laws and choosing “leaders” in GOP primaries.

Baby's Got a Gun

Discovery Communications announced today the launch of Baby's Got a Gun, a new reality television series coming to American homes this Spring, from the team at TLC who catapulted the nation's sassiest sweetheart to fame in Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The new show explores a precocious cast of all American characters passionate about the Second Amendment. The series is part of a new partnership with the National Rifle Association (NRA), America's premiere organization for sport shooting enthusiasts.
Baby's Got a Gun follows a fast-growing but deeply misunderstood American demographic; one that's received a bum rap in recent sensationalist media coverage.
But don't believe the hype! These American toddlers are standing their ground with the best of them, taking part in target practice and Open Carry demonstrations across the country, and having a blast all the way. Discovery Communications is thrilled to unveil a sneak peak of the new network trailer:
"With Toddlers in Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, TLC pulled back the curtain on pageant culture and introduced us to a pint sized American icon," said Raquelle Simmons, Vice President for Acquisitions at Discovery Communications. "Viewers will no doubt be equally bewitched by this intimate tag-along with a group of rootin tootin shootin American youngsters."
Gun owning toddlers have received an unusual amount of attention in the American news media recently, not all of it positive. Baby's Got a Gun is a corrective to some of that biased reporting.
The program is the brainchild of the National Rifle Association's "Eddie Eagle" program, the wildly successful GunSafe® curriculum for children. The NRA is providing some of the program's more high calibre props.
"The liberal media has been having a field day with inaccurate depictions of young Americans shooting their parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and even babysitters," said Dr. Lisa Monroe, NRA spokesperson and child firearm safety expert. "We are thrilled that this show is leaving the politics behind, and letting these kids speak and shoot for themselves."
Baby's Got a Gun premieres on Thanksgiving on November 26, at 8:00 pm ET on TLC, available in most major cable markets. A pre-launch party is scheduled Wednesday November 25, 6pm ET, at Kissimmee Florida's new all ages amusement park, Machine Gun America.

Obama administration: Terrorists don’t kill people; guns kill people

The White House on Monday shifted the blame for the Paris terror attacks from jihadists to guns, as White House spokesman Josh Earnest said members of Congress should make it harder for people to purchase guns in the U.S. rather than worry about terrorists entering the nation.
Earnest made the remarks after a House vote to decrease the number of Middle Eastern refugees President Obama is working to bring into the U.S.
“Members of Congress are prepared to allow those individuals who are already in the United States and are suspected of having links to terrorism of going and purchasing a firearm,” he told reporters.
Earnest then suggested that the National Rifle Association, not ISIS, should scare Americans.
“I think that is a pretty clear indication that Republicans in Congress are more interested in playing politics and more scared of the NRA than they are concerned about doing the right thing for our national security,” he said.
The Obama administration is currently pushing Democratic lawmakers to pass legislation that would use the threat of terror to justify new gun laws.
Those efforts follow a report last week from the Washington Post which suggested that terror suspects in the U.S. have no trouble purchasing firearms legally in the U.S.
“Between 2004 and 2014, suspected terrorists attempted to purchase guns from American dealers at least 2,233 times. And in 2,043 of those cases — 91 percent of the time — they succeeded,” the report said.
Of course, The Post didn’t note that being a terrorist is also illegal, that 94 percent of people currently on FBI watch lists are prohibited from purchasing firearms or that, despite very strict gun laws, French authorities were unable to prevent terrorists from obtaining firearms.
Some of those terrorists, it’s worth noting, were in that country under the very same refugee policies the Obama administration refuses to rethink.
NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker says that makes the Obama administration’s gun control dishonesty even more reprehensible.
“[It’s] appalling that anti-gun politicians are exploiting the Paris terrorist attacks to push their gun-control agenda and distract from President Obama’s failed foreign policy,” she said.
“The NRA does not want terrorists or dangerous people to have firearms. Any suggestion otherwise is offensive and wrong,” Baker added.

Beretta shows off new battle rifle

Beretta Defense Technologies showed off its new ARX-200 battle rifle at the Milipol show in Paris this week.
Milipol is a biennial event held in the French capital and sponsored by the French Ministry of Interior. It is conducted in partnership with the French National Police and Gendarmerie, Civil Defense, French Customs and other key partners like INTERPOL.

Teams charged with protecting their respective countries and cities walk the floors evaluating the latest state-of-the-art tech, vehicles, equipment, gear, weapons and more. The objective is to find gear that will help them to do their job even better and more safely.

Developed to meet the Italian Army’s requirements, the ARX 200 is a new combat rifle in 7.62 mm x 51 NATO calibre. The Italian Army uses the ARX-160A3 5.56x45 mm rifle. The new rifle has similar look to the ARX-160 5.56 mm assault rifle and is designed to be familiar to a user of either.
Gas-piston operated with locked breech and rotating bolt, the rifle also features an ambidextrous magazine release button, catch lever and fire selector. The fire selector has three positions: safe, single shot and automatic.

The ARX-200 weighs just shy of 10 pounds at about 9.92 pounds without a magazine. Weight is reduced through a single aluminum piece design for the forehand and upper rail.
This is one accurate rifle. The ARX achieved a1.5 MOA accuracy at 100 meters using match-grade ammunition – an accuracy pretty much in line with designated marksman rifles. A designated marksman rifle variant is underway by Beretta.

However, these high-level plates are usually inserted into a bullet proof vest with appropriate pockets, and cover the soft Kevlar beneath.
The fabric in a high level vest will help dispel the energy of an attack, mitigating any damage caused by impact and helping to keep the wearer up and fighting. For situations where you face high-powered attacks, it is vital that you can keep moving and stay standing, and the soft fabric in a Level IV vest will ensure you do just that. The rigid plate over that is what actually stops the bullet, however, and needs tough materials like Ceramic or Polyethylene to do so.

While the materials in a rigid Level IV plate are harder and heavier than materials like Kevlar, they are increasingly lightweight and thin, meaning they can be worn even in covert armor. Traditionally, protection against the most serious threats required armor that resembled riot gear, complete with bulky fronts made of steel or even titanium. Now, however, you can have protection against armor-piercing rounds in a discreet and comfortable vest.

Covert armor is of particular benefit to survivalists as it can be worn in almost any circumstances. As any Prepper will tell you, part of being prepared means being ready to react to any situation, and a covert vest means you can be protected when the SHTF. This is just as important for body armor, and you should take steps to maintain and clean your armor regularly.
Thirdly, a bullet proof vest at any level can only stop the threats it is designed to stop. While a Level IV vest is incredibly strong, and can stop the vast majority of ammunition, it will not make you invulnerable, and should never be considered a replacement for common sense and caution.

Finally, a Covert Body Armor vest can only protect you if you wear it. Make sure you are wearing your vest whenever there is the threat of an attack.
