AR Shotguns

Tristar had some new shotguns at SHOT Show this year. If you are not familiar with Tristar they are making some very nicely built shotguns that won’t break the bank. They may not have the fanciest fit and finish, or every bell and whistle, but they flat out run.
There were two standouts in the new guns Tristar had at SHOT this year. One is a tactical AR styled shotgun and the other is their new trap gun.
The KRX 12 gauge.
The KRX 12 gauge. Mag fed, gas operated.
The AR pattern shotgun is appealing becasue of the simple cross-platform operational familiarity. But they're a challenge to get right.

The new Tristar KRX Tactical is an AR styled semi-auto shotgun. The obvious selling point here is the AR platform familiarity. The white-whale of the industry for the last few years has been the ideal tactical shotgun. There are traditional pump overhauls, bull-pups, two loading tubes, two tubes and two barrels–just abotu every combination imaginable. Yet everyone is pushing toward a shotgun that works like an AR platform rifle. Here’s Tristar’s.
The KRX feels solid. These types of guns typically have issues with either feeding or ejection, or both. We’ll be back here with a full-on function test just as soon as the gun is out in the wild, so stay tuned. From what we saw at the show, it looks like a promising design. The gun should sell for less than $500, too.

My favorite of the three new sporting guns is, well, a bit different. Different in a good way though. It is a single barrel that looks, feels and shoulders like an over/under. They call it the Unsingle and it is a new addition to the TT-15 series of trap guns. It has the under barrel of the O/U only. As over/under shooters know, the bottom barrel is the one that is more inline with your shoulder for better felt and controlled recoil.  Tristar is also making a Top Single and I bet you can figure out where the barrel is on that.  However, it is the Unsingle that has our attention as a great practice trap shotgun. Tristar is also offering these in a combo form that includes a standard set of O/U barrels.
All of the TT-15 shotguns come with adjustable comb stocks and Beretta type extended choke tubes. They are all 12 gauge with 2 3/4″ chambers. These are shipping now and have an MSRP between $1,190 and $1,350. The combo comes in at $1,725.
The over. The under is available, too, as is the over/under.

Serbu’s Single Shot .50 — One and Done

The new Serbu .50 is skeletal. Is there a lighter .50 on the market?
The new Serbu .50 is skeletal. Is there a lighter .50 on the market?

One gun you may have not heard about during SHOT Show 2016 is Serbu Firearms’ newest, the RN-50. Keeping with tradition Serbu’s new offering is chambered for .50 BMG and is just as unique as their other contributions to the firearms market.
Based in Tampa, Florida, Serbu Firearms has been a staple provider of unconventional and unusual firearms for years and are well-known for their uncomplicated and affordable .50-caliber rifles for people who want to get into long-range target shooting on a budget. Their latest .50-cal. takes simple and affordable to a new level.
The action is little more than a breach cap that screws into place.
The action is little more than a breach cap that screws into place.
The firing pin is exposed at the rear.
The firing pin is exposed at the rear.
The RN-50 was actually designed as a collaborative effort between Mark Serbu and YouTube sensation Royal Nonesuch — putting the RN in RN-50. The new .50-caliber rifle was built to hit the $1000 price point — something that no company has ever done before for a production rifle.
The gun employs a straightforward break-action design, with a screw-on breach block. Having to unscrew the breach block for each shot makes the rifle a bit slow to reload, but the simple loading and firing system is what makes the gun so inexpensive. At this price a lot of people will accept the trade-off that the shooter has to manually load each round before firing, and manually extract and unload the gun after firing.
The video shows that unloading is still pretty easy to do by using the case rim of another cartridge as a tool for extraction, and that with a little practice, shouldn’t be too hard to get used to. And if the cases start to get too hot, there’s another inexpensive tool that can help: a glove.
The hammer is exposed, too. Kind of like the hammers on some revolvers combined with the caps om the breach of a muzzle loader, with the kick of a government mule.
The exposed hammer is manually cocked to fire.
The break should help mitigate some of the intense recoil.
The brake should help mitigate some of the intense recoil.
Due to the simple design it’s functionally a takedown rifle, and can broken in half at the hinge to make it easier to transport. The gun will ship without a buttstock, instead, it has buffer tube mount installed that accepts standard AR stocks. Other optional upgrades include a set trigger and a bipod in addition to the stock.
For a short time the gun will be offered at the introductory price of $875. You will have to act fast as the MSRP is going up to $1,199 on February 19. Even at the higher price point, this is an interesting new product from the folks at Serbu Firearms and it is definently the least expensive way to get into shooting .50 BMG.
Specifications:
  • Caliber: .50 BMG, .50 DTC for restricted markets. Other cartridges possible with barrel change
  • Barrel: 29.5 inches, alloy steel with 1-in-15 button rifling
  • Chassis: heat-treated steel and aluminum construction
  • Finish: manganese phosphate and hard anodized
  • Action: modified break action with threaded breach
  • Weight: 17 pounds
  • MSRP: $1,199, introductory price, $875
The heat sheild should let you grab the gun and run, if you need to. But it will take some time to reload.

Locked and Loaded: Take a Shot at Our Firearms Quiz

13 Examples of Obama’s Jew Hatred

  1. Hiring anti-Semites like General Merrel McPeak. The 2008 Obama for President Co-Chair has an impressive record of blaming American foreign policy on the “Jewish Lobby.” When asked during an interview why there’s no peace in the Middle East and he said, “New York City. Miami. We have a large vote — vote, here in favor of Israel. And no politician wants to run against it.”
  2. Hiring anti-Semite Zbigniew Brzezinski who warned about the power of the pro-Israel lobby buying congress.
  3. Appointing anti-Semite Chas Freeman who blamed his resignation on the evil Israel lobby (a nicer way of saying Jewish lobby).
  4. First Presidential Medal of Freedom honorees were anti-Semites Bishop Desmond Tutu and Mary Robinson. The nicest thing Bishop Desmond Tutu ever said about Jews was “People are scared in this country [the US], to say wrong is wrong because the Jewish lobby is powerful.” Also that, “the Jews thought they had a monopoly on God.”
  5. Mary Robinson presided over the “World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance,” which turned into a non-stop hate-fest against Jews and Israel. The conference was so anti-Semitic that then Secretary of State Colin Powell walked out.
  6. Buddy, tax evader, Al Sharpton led the anti-Semitic pogrom in Crown Heights and incited the anti-Semitic fire bombing of Freddy’s Fashion Mart in Harlem.
  7. Advisor Valerie Jarrett gave the keynote address at an anti-Semitic ISNA conference, which included discussions on how key Obama aides are “Israeli,” proving Jews “have control of the world,” or how the Holocaust is punishment of Jews for being “serially disobedient to Allah.”
  8. His second Department of Defense appointee Chuck Hagel believes in the nefarious “world wide Jewish conspiracy.” Hagel was once quoted saying, “The political reality is that… the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here.”
  9. After Islamists attacked a Kosher supermarket in Paris one year ago, Obama first insisted it was a random act and not an anti-Semitic act.
  10. Obama unilaterally broke a preexisting deal with Israel over its housing policy.
  11. Last Friday presented another example of this after the U.S. State Department condemned Israel for allowing homes to be built for Jews to live in that were located west of the Jordan River.
  12. Obama has repeatedly criticized Israel for allowing Jews to purchase homes (with real money) in East Jerusalem. Yet, Obama have not identified any other location around the world where he believes certain people should not be allowed to legally purchase homes with real money—except for Jews.
  13. On a July 31 phone call Obama repeatedly stated that opponents of the Iran deal came from the same “array of forces that got us into the Iraq war,” namely, Jews. Lee Rosenberg of AIPAC questioned Obama’s statement, comparing people who object to the Iran deal to those who supported the invasion of Iraq, that many anti-Semites falsely claim the Jews pushed Bush into invading Iraq. Who can forget former prime minister Ariel Sharon’s strong opposition. Sharon urged Bush not to invade Iraq, arguing correctly that if Saddam were removed, “Iran, a far more dangerous player, will be rid of its principal enemy and free to pursue its ambitions of regional hegemony.”

SIG Rifles for 2016

This year at the SIG Sauer booth there was a lot to take in. Some of their new products for 2016 really stood out, including the updated SIG716 G2, M400 Scorpion AR pistols, redesigned P210 target pistols and after a long tease, optics-ready P320 models.

SIG Rifles for 2016

Sig 13
The SIG716 G2 is surprisingly lightweight.
Sig 11
Thanks to a skeletal KeyMod handguard.
The SIG716 G2 is an updated version of the AR-10-style short-stroke piston-driven SIG716. It has a heavy-contour 16-inch barrel, chambered for 7.62 NATO/.308 Winchester, with a modular, monolithic handguard. The handguard has a flattop rail for optics and sights and KeyMod slots along the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions for grips, lights, pointers and other accessories.
Unlike the previous-generation model with a four-position gas block, the G2 now has a simple two-position gas system for shooting suppressed or unsuppressed, and the rifles all have suppressor-ready muzzle brakes for use with SIG’s new line of suppressors.
Sig 10
A short handguard will be offered as well.
Sig 9
They are suppressor-ready.

A lot of weight-savings tweaks went into the new G2 model. It weighs in at 9 pounds, two pounds lighter than the old SIG716. SIG will start shipping the new rifles in February, with MSRPs around $2600.
SIG is launching a new series of direct-impingement M400-pattern AR pistols that draws on the look and feel of their Scorpion handguns. They are launching with two models, a 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington pistol with an 11.5-inch barrel and a 300 AAC Blackout pistol with a 9-inch barrel. Like the Scorpion handguns, the AR pistols are only offered in flat dark earth. MSRPs are right at $1400.

SIG Pistols for 2016

Sig 7
Optics-equipped SIG pistols will hit shelves this 2016.
Sig 8
And come with SIG optics installed.
The optics-ready P320 RX series — so-called for SIG’s Romeo compact reflex sights — is finally expected to ship this year. P320 RX pistols will come with a Romeo1 sight mounted to the slide along with a set of raised suppressor sights that cowitness with the optic.
The Romeo1 features SIG’s MOTAC (Motion Activated Illumination) system which increases battery life by turning off the red dot when not in use, and it instantly turns it on when it senses vibration or movement. Machined from a single billet of magnesium, the Romeo1 is designed to stand up to serious abuse.
SIG is launching with two models, their based on their Full-Size and their Compact P320 pistols, and they will be available with a two-tone or plain black finish. Shipping starts mid-February with a $799 MSRP — including the Romeo1.
Sig 1
The updated P210 has a surprisingly low MSRP.
This year SIG is also reintroducing the venerable P210. The announcement is causing a bit of a stir as the American-made guns are priced significantly lower than the original German pistols. SIG is kicking things off with two models, the P210 Classic and P210 Target.
Like the originals, the new P210 pistols are full-size single-action, single-stack handguns chambered for 9mm Luger. They have slender frames and slides with the slide running on rails inside the frame — and are considered by many to be the best target pistols ever produced by SIG.
The new SIG P210 shares a lot of features with the more recent P210 Legend series including the American-style push-button magazine release, checkered target grips, wide slide serrations, stainless steel construction and Super Target-style manual thumb safety. Both have 5-inch barrels; the main differences are that The Classic will come with fixed sights and the Target will have adjustable sights and extra slide serrations on the front of the slide.
MSRP will be around $1500 for the P210 Target and $1300 for the P210 Classic with availability expected May of this year. SIG plans to follow up with a 6-inch longslide version later in June as well as a 4-inch Carry version after that.
This is just some of what SIG has in the works for this year. We’ll follow up with news and reviews of SIG’s latest hardware in detail throughout 2016.
