Seeking amateur shooters for new reality show

Are you an enthusiastic sport shooter with a .22 caliber handgun or rifle at your disposal?
With a sharp eye
and a steady hand, you could win $50,000 and the title of first American
Marksman, thanks to a new concept shooting competition TV show by
Outdoor Sportsman Group.
A gun range in Linden has been
approved as an official qualifying location for shooters to earn a bid
to the Southwest Regional Championship.
The San Joaquin Rifle and Pistol Range is owned by Christine Zador, who is president of the company.
“We couldn’t be more proud and
excited to be named an official local qualifying range for American
Marksman,” said Zador. “Our organizations share the same goal, to bring
new folks into the shooting sports in a safe and fun environment. We
look forward to welcoming competitors into our facility beginning in
March.”
Zador’s parents opened the range
37 years ago. Zador grew up on the property and worked as a target
setter as a teen. Four years ago, she and her father renovated the
facility. When he passed away in 2012, Zador turned the business into a
corporation and hired a knowledgeable staff to run the place.
They offer target practice and gun safety classes to visitors from as far as Sacramento, Merced and the Bay Area.
“I pride myself on how respectful
95 percent of our shooters are when they come out here,” she said.
“We’re all in it together. If people don’t follow the rules, they have
to go home.”
Shooters at the range are
required to undergo a safety briefing and sign a waiver. If they are new
to the sport, the shooter will work with a range safety officer before
stepping up to the firing line.
Those who are especially new to
sport shooting are invited to men’s or women’s pistol nights. These are a
series of educational and practical courses on weeknights to become
more comfortable with their firearm.
This competition is open to
amateurs. After registering online, competitors will head out to the
range on weekend days in March, April and May of this year. Each
competitor will complete a qualifying course using .22 caliber rim fire
ammunition fired from .22 caliber rifles, handguns or both. Scores will
be uploaded to the American Marksman leaderboards on the website as soon
as competitors complete the contest.
Crews from the reality show will
choose which shooters to highlight in the show based on their online
profiles, and how well they do in early qualifying rounds. Zador said
the organization is looking for everyday gunowners with great skills.
Zador’s staff is training this week to run the qualifying course and prepare for the competition.
“This is the first year, so come
out and show off your skills,” she said. “I grew up in sports, and I
love the competitive aspect of shooting sports. This is something to
work hard for.”
