Are you ready for anything? Weekend expo highlights survivalist, prepper lifestyle

The devastation wrought by Harvey on the Texas coast this past weekend has amplified the topic of preparedness.
Locals are invited to attend a survivalist/prepper expo this weekend to learn more about the lifestyle and how being prepared can save your life and the lives of others.
The RK Prepper Survival Expo and Gun Show will be at Camp Jordan. Hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets are $14 for adults, and admission is free for kids 12 and under.
A $16.50 VIP ticket is available online. The ticket allows holders to skip wait times and long lines.

Preppers ask questions such as what would happen after a nuclear attack? Would we survive a total government collapse or a natural disaster like a hurricane or earthquake? What would happen if everything just stopped working?
The expo is for anyone who has an interest in being, at the least, minimally prepared for anything to happen.
According to the website, guests can shop from hundreds of vendors with a variety of outdoor gear, food preservation equipment, gardening supplies, first-aid kits, and food and water storage systems.
But the expo isn’t just meant for hardcore preppers. Officials encourage people to think about other common emergencies of everyday life: What if you get stranded in the snow? A flood destroys your home? A house fire takes all your belongings?
A list of vendors can be found here.
In addition to vendors, the show will include a medical preparedness workshop with instructions on hand-suturing wounds, stapling and more. Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy—of Doom and Bloom, a survival medicine website—will host the class.
Tickets to the class are an additional $99. Click here for more information.
For hardcore preppers—those focused on all aspects of survival and living a minimalist lifestyle—the expo offers a wealth of supplies and information.
Guests will learn about “bug-out bunkers,” stockpiling food and self-defense methods using only your body. New gun sales will also be allowed at the event.
Locally, P5 Preparedness in East Brainerd specializes in prepper and survivalist materials. “P5” stands for “proper planning prevents poor preparedness.”
